Piccadilly Circus is probably the most famous advertising site in England and LKL Lighting, working for MT2, has recently designed and supplied the LED lighting installation to illuminate the new ‘banner sign’ situated above Barclays Bank new flagship store. The ‘banner sign’, which is approximately 25 metres wide and 2 metres high, is illuminated from both top and bottom of the sign using in total 34 off 1.2mlong exterior LED Linear light each with 36 of the latest 5300k white Luxeon K2 LED’s with wall wash optics.
LUXEON K2 LEDs are the highest performance, most robust, and rugged LEDs currently available. Part of the next generation of LEDs, Luxeon K2's raises the industry standard for light output and thermal management, with the ability to be driven at higher currents for longer periods of time than any other LED. The K2 offers the world’s best LED light output, outstripping the performance of other power LEDs by 15 to 30% and significantly lowering the cost per lumen.
LED lighting has energy consumption which is typically more than 80% lower than comparative conventional lamp sources, such as metal halide, making this an extremely energy efficient and green installation. LED’s typically have a longer service life, in excess of 50,000 hours, with extremely low maintenance costs.
The other advantages of using an LED luminaire in this particular situation was the ability to install a slim unobtrusive fitting that did not detract from the appearance of the sign utilizing a light source that could be focused very precisely, in this situation with’ wall wash’ optics, to light the sign but with no light spillage.
